Wyrmsmith Etymology

Wyrmsmith is where tabletop terrain meets architecture. Established in 2021 by James Drury, Wyrmsmith was originally a real architectural design practice. Before starting his own business, James graduated with a five-year honours degree from the Dublin School of Architecture and worked in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction services sector designing a variety of building projects, from kitchen extensions to multimillion-dollar, mixed-use developments.

Throughout his professional career, James has also been passionate about miniature model making, painting and wargaming, and his hobby collection includes miniatures from Warhammer 40,000, Star Wars: Legion — any similar wargame set in a future, science fiction universe. And so, as Wyrmsmith started to specialize in 3D-printing architectural models of designs by industry clients, James begun printing models of his own designs for a different market.

Today, Wyrmsmith is a virtual workshop that designs unique architectural works and sells models of those works for use as terrain or scenery in tabletop miniature model wargames. Postmodern in design and insofar as they attempt to reintroduce signs to architecture, to which the etymology of Wyrmsmith attests¹, these architectural miniatures are suitable for any 1:50 heroic scale battlefield of the present, future or far future.

Be they obscure ruins fallen under a grimdark cityscape or objectives marking the border of explored space, what works of Wyrmsmith will you discover in your worlds....

¹ The root meaning of monster is from PIE *moneie- "to make a thought in others".
